Prepare the Site

Your future lawn will need approximately 4 to 6 inches of good topsoil.  Add or remove soil about an inch below any landscaped areas like decks or walkways, or the driveway.  To prepare your soil, it is recommended to spread one 50 pound bag of Lime per 1,000 square feet.  It is also recommended to spread 5 pounds per thousand square feet of a started fertilizer (both are available from your local garden center). Starter fertilizer will be one with a higher middle number like 12-24-12 or comparable.  The middle number of the breakdown is phosphorous, which promotes root growth. Spread both of these products, then rake the site again to mix them in to the top inch of the soil.  In summer months, sprinkle the soil down before you begin laying the sod. Along with adding moisture, this will cool the soil down making it safer to lay the sod.

Measure the Area

Sod is sold in basic square footage measurements.  In a square area this is simply length multiplied by width.  For a triangle, multiply length by width and then by 0.5.  For the area of a circle, multiply the radius by itself, then multiply by 3.14.  For an irregular shape, section areas off into more standard shapes and add their areas.

Ordering Sod

Whether picked up or delivered, all of our sod is cut fresh to order.  Please allow 24 to 48 hours advance notice for any sod you need.  This is also required to help schedule cutting and delivering of the sod as our trucks may be routed a day or two in advance.  There is no minimum quantity for picked-up sod.  For larger quantities of sod to be picked up, we may have the customer go right to the field where it is cut.  will do our best to always have the sod at our office on Smith Rd, but this is not always the case.
